Fraser Island is known as one of the top ten most beautiful islands in the world. Not only has Fraser Island a nearly unnatural beauty, it is also unique in many ways and this is the reason why Fraser Island is listed as a World Heritage Listed island.

The list of superlatives for Fraser Island is long:

• Fraser Island is the worlds biggest sand island

• It has more than half of the worlds perched lakes

• It also contains the largest perched lake in the world

• It has some of the cleanest water in the world

• It has some plants which only grow on Fraser Island

• The Dingo's are the purest strain in Australia

• It is the only place in the world where tall rainforests are found growing on sand dunes at elevations of over 200 metres.

• Birds are the most abundant form of animal life on Fraser Island with over 350 species being recorded.

Over the years millions of people have visited Fraser Island to be amazed by its flora, fauna and natural beauty. But Fraser Island has even more to offer, a rich history of both pre-European discovery and modern times tales and amazing geographic features.

Today's visitors can enjoy Fraser Island in the comfort of a 4WD or a guided tour, a scenic flight by plane or helicopter or while staying at one of the many accommodations which cater for everyone from camping to luxury resorts.

Sadly enough this massive attention comes at a cost for Fraser Island and the Queensland Park and Wildlife rangers work day and night to minimize the impact of the many visitors so Fraser Island will be preserved for future generations to enjoy as well.

Fraser Island is commonly misspelled as Frazer Island, Frasier Island and Fraiser Island. Also its original name, K'gari is sometimes used. This name was originally given to it by its aboriginal inhabitants but was later replaced into Fraser Island by the Europeans.
